Step 01

Obtaining the death certificate

If your loved one passed away in hospital

Obtain the Death Certificate from the hospital or doctor.

The deceased may be kept in the hospital mortuary free of charge for up to three days.

If your loved one passed away at home

A doctor must officially certify the death and issue the Death Certificate.

If you do not have a family doctor, contact a home-visit medical service:

Step 02

Cremation arrangements

Discuss and agree on the funeral day and date with your family.

Apply online for the Permit to Cremate (PtC) using Singpass, and book the cremation slot.

Complete the permit, cremation hall booking, time selection and payment online.

Open the NEA application NEA confirmation will be sent to the email address provided. You generally do not need to visit Mandai unless the online system is unavailable.

Coffin and hearse arrangements

SIWEC can provide a coffin and hearse, subject to availability.

Using a casket company

You may use the company's coffin and hearse, or their coffin with the SIWEC hearse if it is available.

Step 04

Engaging Giani Ji from a Gurdwara

  1. Check the availability of Giani Ji at your chosen Gurdwara Sahib for prayers at the crematorium and the ash collection ceremony the following day.
  2. Arrange pick-up and drop-off, and discuss all timings directly with the Gurdwara.
For the final prayers, please discuss your preference directly with the Gurdwara.

Cremation and ash collection

SIWEC staff or volunteers can guide your family at the crematorium. Items for cremation and ash collection may be obtained from the suppliers listed above.

The following day

Ash collection will take place the day after cremation. SIWEC staff or volunteers will not be present during ash collection.

Scattering of ashes

A boat may be arranged at Changi, in advance or at the jetty. Estimated cost: $70–$80. Maximum capacity: 11 people, including Giani Ji.
